We visited KC on a trip from the UK whilst visiting friends. One thing planned was a trip out to the Bourbon Distillery for a tour. Honestly, I went in dreading as I don't drink alcohol the majority of the time, not a fan of whiskey either....but I came away loving the experience! Our tour guide knew so much, was informative and went at a pace that wasn't rushed, but also not standing around the same place for ages. There's a bar and gift shop on site with a lovely lounge area whilst you wait for your tour to start. We also loved the old truck parked up outside which provided plenty of photo opportunities! I also very much enjoyed their Irish Cream Liquor!
We traveled from North Carolina to Weston, MO, to visit the Holladay Distillery this past weekend - definitely worth the trip, and we look forward to returning! We attended the "Masters of Whiskey & The Wild West" event at Holladay Distillery on Friday night, and then did the distillery tour on Saturday with our kids. Both events were fun, well organized, informative, and in a beautiful setting in Weston, MO. Follow the Holladay Distillery on facebook and Instagram for upcoming special events, and listen to the "Holladay Happy Hour" podcast (always fun to hear the latest from the distillery, and make sure you listen to the episode about Five Farms Irish Cream - entertaining & will make you want to find some Five Farms Irish Cream asap!). When you visit the distillery, plan to arrive early (or stay after the tour) & enjoy a drink, play lawn games, and check out the views. We highly recommend visiting Holladay Distillery and the town of Weston - lots to see & do in the area.
We stayed at the Hatchery House in Weston - just 5 minutes away by car. Fabulous bed & breakfast, and was once the home of Ben Holladay, the "Stagecoach King"!
Took part in the bourbon tasting and brunch. Solid day as we spent hours here. Lots of drink choices, brunch was delicious and mixologists from all over KC for us to sample their signature bourbon mixes using Holladay bourbon (naturally). I hope this becomes an annual tradition - haven’t been this relaxed and enjoyed such a time in quite a few years.
I go to a lot of distilleries. On a business trip. Tasted some Holladay recently and enjoyed it so came here to see what I might pick up. I didn't enjoy that I drove 40 miles to be told the tasting experience is down town. Have to buy full shots to try anything. I picked a couple but was disappointed. Not worth the trip. Offered tasting options on things not available to buy. Nope.
"I haven't decided yet. We'll see how I feel in a few moments." This was the direct quote from the server when asked by a patron as to how many samples would be provided during the tasting as the end of the tour. The tasting ended after one sample. Put simply, when a customer pays for a tour, which supposedly includes the tasting, they are not paying for a "maybe we will or won't based on how I feel scenario." When another patron began to acquint themselves with their sample, they were promptly verbally scolded, and informed, "I'm not done showing you how to do this yet and I'm giving the presentation." This was shocking, done in a fairly loud voice, and resulted in everyone within the party promptly moving away from the bar. Put frankly, while the ambiance of the Distillery and the majority of their workers seem courteous and kind, those associated with their tour and tasting were shockingly short, terse, and abrupt. Upon completion, all groups associated were relieved to be able to leave. I do not think we will be back, and would not recommend their tour to others with this current staff. Feel free to contact or message me for further details
Awesome tour! Best old fashioned
Awesome set up, great guest areas and bar. The Tour was fun and you learn a lot about the process and the history of the area! Got a free drink, to sample the product along the way and 3 free shots. If you want more shots 25 cents each.
Excellent experience with extremely nice and knowledgeable bourbon bartenders/servers! Great bourbon and options for tasting. Holladay is top notch!! Definitely coming back and recommend to Bourbon enthusiasts.
